It’s October in the USA so its Halloween season! One of my all time favorite horror books is the 1959 classic, ‘The Haunting of Hill House.’ (The Netflix series is inspired by the book and also quite different) Shirley Jackson’s classic ghost story follows Eleanor, a lonely and shy young woman who joins a paranormal experiment at the strange, creepy Hill House. 🕸️ A doctor invites a few guests to spend the summer there and study its dark reputation. But the house seems to watch them, and it seems to want Eleanor most of all. 😱
🦇 It’s a masterpiece of quiet, creeping horror. Read it with the lights on! 💡🎃 It inspired Stephen King and it’s considered an extremely influential work.
What I love MOST about it is: THIS ‘haunting’ is REAL… Buwahahahaha!
One of my ESL students read it last year and really enjoyed it. CEFR LEVEL: B2/C1. Audio time: about 6 hours.
